Frankenstein Colorforms Set
“Frankenstein Colorforms Set” was a digital illustration project inspired by Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. The assignment challenged students to create a Colorforms-style storytelling set consisting of a landscape and interchangeable character illustrations. While studying the novel in a literature course at the time, I became interested in Shelley’s detailed descriptions and developed my own interpretations of the Monster, the De Lacey family, and their environment. The frozen landscape references the novel’s opening and closing settings, while the central fire introduces a small sense of warmth within an otherwise isolated world. Inspired by the stylized exaggeration of classic cartoons and children’s media, I balanced playful character design with the novel’s themes of loneliness, rejection, and moral ambiguity. The project became an opportunity to explore character development while translating a literary work into a visual narrative.
